IEEE Robotics and Automation Initiatives and Special Events at ICRA 2008

RAS AdCom Meeting

Differently from the past, Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) officers will conduct the Administrative Committee (AdCom) Meeting during ICRA 2008. The AdCom Meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday May 22, 2008 at the conference venue (room 107) between 12:00-16:00. There will be complimentary box lunches for the first 200 attendees to arrive at noon. The AdCom Meeting is open to all RAS members: all are welcome to participate in the discussion. If you would like to know more about how the RAS operates, have ideas about how it can better serve members, or else about how to get involved, this is a great opportunity.

Women in Robotics Lunch

The "Women in Robotics" lunch will take place on Wednesday May 21 (noon -1340) at the conference venue in room 107. The lunch will serve as a venue for discussion of strategies and issues for recruitment of women into the field of robotics and as a networking and mentoring opportunity to encourage young researchers to stay in the field. This event follows a very successful "Birds of a Feather" lunch on this topic held at ICRA 2007. The lunch is sponsored by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and is open to all interested ICRA attendees, male or female. There will be complimentary box lunches for the first 100 attendees to arrive at noon.

GOLD Reception

As in ICRA 2007, the RAS Technical Activities Board is sponsoring an event during ICRA 2008 for all Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD), formerly known as "Young Professionals". This event will take place on Wednesday May 21 (at 6 pm) at the conference venue in room 107. The GOLD event is organized by Ken Goldberg, VP for Technical Activities and the RAS Technical Activities Board. The event is tailored for students and researchers at the early stages of their careers and is a great way to meet your peers! It introduces the 23 Technical Committees and highlights opportunities for getting involved in the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. There will be complimentary drinks and snacks for the first 200 graduates of the last decade to arrive at the reception.
